Women of the Middle East Film Festival
Women of the Middle East Film Festival
Malaspina University, Nanaimo B.C.
The Women of the Middle East Film Festival celebrated the cinematic visions and life stories of Middle Eastern women in a four day, 14 film on-campus film festival. Held the week prior to International Women’s Day, the festival explored both the cultural diversity and the status of women in the Middle East as well as the immigrant experience of women from the region. The aim of the festival was to broaden campus resident’s understanding of the Middle East and to highlight gender issues within the region.
The festival was free of charge and donations collected went to a teacher sponsorship programme administered by the Revolutionary Association of Women in Afghanistan (RAWA) for rural teachers in Afghanistan.
The event was sponsored by the Malaspina Women Studies Department, Malaspina Faculty Association and Malaspina Human Rights Office.
